If you already own property in Greece it is important to register it in the Greek Land Registry (Ktimatologio) within the legal time limit. Gradually all estates within the Greek Country must be registered in the Greek Land Registry as there are over 150 areas in Greece which require registration with the Greek Land Registry (Ktimatolgio). Every year various territories of the Greek Country are included in the process of the Greek Land Registry and it is extremely crucial to register your property in time, in order to protect your ownership rights as if you neglect the registration, it might lead you eventually even to the loss of your real estate rights.
But even if you fail the deadline set for the initial registration to the Land Registry, Greek Law sets a 8 years time (for foreign residents) limit beginning from the starting date of each Land Registry within which you must file a lawsuit in order to properly register your property and secure your ownership rights. In case you miss the above 8 years lawsuit deadline, it may cause severe consequences to your property rights, as your property might end either to the Greek State or the person to whom your property is falsely appeared to be registered in the Greek Land Registry.
